One Life to Live

One Life to Live has enjoyed tremendous success over the past forty years. A major part of their success has been attributed to the all start cast that has been apart of the show since the very beginning. Showing off their arsenal of skills and acting abilities the veteran cast members is what gives the show consistency, familiarity, and substance. There is no doubt about it that without the veteran cast members, viewer loyalty would not be nearly as high as it currently is. Whether a cast member has been on the show for many years or rather new, they all play a large role in the success of the show. The veteran cast members take in the newer ones as their own and really teach them how to make the show speak to the viewer. Some of the cast members that have really given a presence to the show include Erika Slezak, Robert S. Woods, and Robin Strasser. Erika Slezak is probably the most known character of the show, and has played Viki Lord Riley since 1971. Slezak initially read for a role on All of My Children, but was offered a role on One Life to Live. Slezak has enjoyed a tremendous following as Viki on One Life to Live and has earned 6 daytime Emmy awards for her role on the show. Slezak is completely dedicated to the show and demonstrates it regularly as seen with her feud with Dena Higley. Slezak’s fan base completely supported Slezak during this time and eventually Higely was replaced by another writer. Robert S. Woods first debuted on One Life to Live as Bo Buchanan in 1979. Woods has played Buchanan for the majority of his span on One Life to Live with only one departure in 1986 and returned two years later. Woods received a daytime Emmy award in 1983 for lead actor. Woods is one of the most veteran cast members on the show and provides depth and consistency on the show on a regular basis. Woods also received four other awards from the Soap Opera Digest. Robin Strasser, was introduced on the show in 1979 as Dr. Dorian Lord. Although she left in 1987, she returned in 1993 to 2000, and then again returned in 2003 and is currently playing Dr. Dorian Lord once again. In 1982, Strasser won a daytime Emmy award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama series. She was also nominated for the award in 81’, 83’, and 85’ respectively also winning for Outstanding leading actress in 96’, and Outstanding female scene stealer in 2001. Other famous actors have gotten their start on One Life to Life and have attributed their start of their success to being on the show. Some of these actors are as follows Keith Bogart, Ted O’Rourke, Yasmine Bleeth, Ryan Phillipe, Hayden Panettiere, Tommy Lee Jones, and Joshua Cox. One Life to Live has spoken about their amazing cast members and have attributed them with the success and devotion to maintaining and sustaining One Life to Live.
