There is no doubt about it that the cast members of Guiding Light has truly made it to become what it is today, a trail blazer in its field as well as main stay in entertainment industry. Kim Zimmer, also known as Reva Shayne Lewis, has provided Guiding Light with being half of the Super Couple of Reva and Josh since 1983. She departed Guiding Light in 1990 yet returned in 1995. Zimmer is a four-time Emmy award-winning actress in which in 2006 she won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for role on Guiding Light. Robert Newman is another Veteran on Guiding Light appearing on the show in 1981 as Josh Lewis. Newman played Lewis on and off over the years and ever since 1993 has regularly played Lewis to this very date. Part of the super couple with Zimmer, Newman also had roles on General Hospital and Santa Barbara. Micheal O’Leary is another veteran who has been on the show since 1983 playing Dr. Fredrick \"Rick\" Bauer. O’Leary has also had some departures but has been playing Bauer constantly since 1995. These veteran cast members have been able to hold the show down numerous times when Guiding Light was in fear of being cancelled. Guiding Light has also given many struggling actors their first start as they have gone on to enjoy a wonderful successful career in the entertainment industry. Some of these actors include Kevin Bacon, James Earl Jones, Hayden Panettiere, Brittany Snow, and Don Stewart. Guiding Light has been pushing the soap opera boundaries ever since conception in the 30’s. There is not doubt about it that a large part of the show’s success has been due to the outstanding cast member that have been gracing the television screen for decades. No matter what is changing in the soap opera field, the reliance on quality actors can pull any show out of a rut and there is no doubt about it that Guiding Light took advantage of their star studded cast. Countless daytime Emmy awards have been given to the show, which demonstrates hard work and dedication from the cast, crew, and production teams.
