Being on air for 46 years, General Hospital has enjoyed cast members that have served many years on the program making them true veterans. Such members of the cast include Leslie Charleson, Jane Elliot, Anthony Geary, John J. York, and John Ingle. The veteran cast members are what General Hospital has been able to rely on if any types of difficulties were going on with the writing process. The show could always base their efforts on the tremendous acting skills of the legacy members who have the ability to draw in audiences naturally and effectively. Many viewers tune in everyday just to see the familiar faces that have been watching for decades. Many soap’s, including General Hospital, have brought in newer and younger cast members when ratings go down, however General Hospital has always relied on the strong acting skills of their veterans. Leslie Charleston joined the cast of General Hospital in 1977, playing Monica Webber. Charleston’s role as Webber gained much notoriety, as she was involved in the loveless marriage between her and Alan Quartermaine. This love hate relationship increased ratings tremendously and enabled General Hospital to regain audiences. Charleson’s character on the show also went through issues of having breast cancer and was nominated for a daytime Emmy for her performance. Jane Elliot, who played Tracy Quartermaine, first appeared on General Hospital in 1977. She had some departures along the years, but she has always come back to where she got her start on daytime. Geary as Spencer played one of the most notable love stories in the shows history of Luke and Laura. Geary won a Daytime Emmy Award for \"Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series\" half a dozen times for his role on General Hospital.
