The most notable Alumni and the only two that have stayed with the show since the very beginning are Susan Lucci and Ray MacDonnell. Susan Lucci, who plays Erica Cane, is probably the most well known start of the show. Dubbed “the Daytime Leading Lady” Lucci has played Erica Cane on All my Children for over 39 years and has practically carried the show the entire time. She is the highest paid daytime actor, being sited that she gets paid as much as $1 million per year. Lucci’s long-term presence on the show has given her the ability to dictate much that goes on with the show and has proven time and time again that her character provides a base for the entire show. Lucci was practically nominated for a daytime Emmy ever year since 1978, yet it took her 18 nominations to finally win one in 1999. Lucci’s win gained a standing ovation as her award was much deserved capturing the media and audiences all over the nation as it got national attention. Lucci’s role on All My Children has been her most notable role and has taken much up much of career. Lucci started on Dancing with the stars in 2008 partnering with Tony Dovolani. Lucci’s daughter with husband Helmut Huber, is Passions start Lisa Huber, who played Gwen until the show was cancelled in 2007. Ray MacDonnell has also stared on All My Children since the very first episode in 1970. Ray MacDonnell, who plays Dr. Joe Marin, has been on the show for 39 years and continues to light up the screen everyday as Dr. Joe Martin. MacDonnell was born in Massachusetts and attended Amherst University and the Royal Academy of Arts in London. MacDonnell is married and has three children, leaving a very normal life despite is almost forty year stint on All My Children. In 2004, MacDonnell won a Daytime Emmy Lifetime achievement award. MacDonnell has also done some work besides All My Children including playing Dick Tracy on a television pilot that never ended up getting picked up. MacDonnell continues to play Dr. Joe Martin and helps newer characters on the show really come into their own. There have also been many actors who have played roles on All My Children that have gone on to further their career and really make something out of themselves in the entertainment industry. People like Kelly Ripka and Mark Consuelo even met, fell in love, and got married while being cast members on the show. Others such as Jesse McCarthy, Mischa Barton, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lauren Holly, Jonathan Bennett, and Josh Duhamel all got their start on the soap opera. All My Children has really provided many actors with a base to jump-start their career and allow them to develop both personally and artistically.
