One of the dynamic aspects about The Young and the Restless is the fact the first cast mates were written off, yet the show remained tremendously successful with the help of some very talented long-term veteran actors and actresses. Without the talents of the casts that were introduced after the first write off, I don’t know if The Young and the Restless would have been able to last the test of time like it did. One of the most known veteran actresses on the show is Jeanne Cooper, who plays Katherine Chancellor. Cooper was contracted in November of 1973 and has been on the show ever since and has truly made what The Young and the Restless is today. Her dynamic attitude and tone allows audiences to really relate and love to hate her at the same time. She brings something to The Young and the Restless that no other cast mate has managed to bring, her long lasting endurance. Not only has her character battled with alcoholism but she also lost two husbands, her child, and her grandchild. Cooper was nominated for two primetime Emmy’s, won a daytime Emmy in 2008 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and was nominated for 8 other daytime Emmy awards. Cooper’s role as Chancellor has allowed the Young and the Restless the title of having the longest running feud of a soap opera in the United States. Another famous alumni of the Young and the Restless is Paul Williams who joined the cast in 1973 making him the series senior male cast member. Williams has achieved 3 Soap Opera Digest wins in 1991, 1992, and 1997 respectively for best supporting actor. Also in 2003 Williams got a Daytime Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor. Melody Thomas Scott, introduced in 1979, is another famous alumni of The Young and the Restless. Scott played the role of stripper Nikki Reed who ended up marrying Victor Newman, becoming an integral character in the program. In 1999, Scott received a nomination for outstanding lead actress. Eric Braden, who played Victor Newman, has also been on the cast since 1980 who also takes the form of one of the veterans and famous alumni’s of the show. There have been many characters on the show but some stand out such as Deidre Hall, David Hasselhoff, Eva Longoria Parker and Shemar Moore. Since there have been so many different characters on the show the support is tremendous. Soap Opera’s tend to be stepping-stone for some actors such as the Hoff and Eva Longoria Parker. But they also tend to be long term careers for people such as Cooper, Williams, and Scott. Whichever the case may be the Young and the Restless has transformed careers in the entertainment industry as well as creating life lasting jobs. The Young and the Restless has allowed a plethora of actors to succeed with their careers and gives them a signature base on how to fully develop their talents.
