Days of our Lives has achieved over 40 years of success, and heavily in part to the dynamic cast, dramatic acting, intense story lines, and the alternative set setting of a hospital. There is no doubt about it that Days of our Lives has truly become a daily event for many viewers’ lives. With incredible writing and directing, the show has become an American Soap staple. With the long lasting success that Days of our Lives has enjoyed, there are some veterans who have truly helped to shape the show to this very day. We have enjoyed these exceptional performances day after day, and live their lives at the same time we live our own. There is only one Days Veteran that has stayed with the show since conception, who we all know as Alice Horton, the great Frances Reid. Reid has played Alice Horton since 1965 and has played the wife of Dr. Tom Horton to a T. Reid is the eldest actress to appear on a television series and currently holds the title for the longest run on a single TV series. Reid has enjoyed much success with the show as she earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Emmys in 2004. John Clarke is another long time veteran of the show appearing since the first episode as Micky Horton. Clarke starred on the show for almost 40 years when he retired in 2004 due to health concerns. Suzanne Rogers, who played Maggie Horton, also is a long-term veteran of Days. Rogers played Horton since 1973 and is currently still playing an integral role in the development of the character. Rogers in real life has been suffering from a rare muscle disease and the writers of the show actually wrote in the same disease to be portrayed by her character on the show so that audiences could be educated about the subject. Rogers is also the only actor on Days of our Lives to win an Emmy in a competitive category. Another veteran of the show Deidre Hall, who plays Dr. Marlena Evans has been on the show since 1976 but with many different and varied departures and returns. Hall has also been a regular on the Young and the Restless truly carving her niche in the soap opera market. Alumni of Days of our Lives have also gone on to have bright careers in the entertainment industry. It is true that without the very talented actors of the show, days of our lives may have never truly been what it has been to so many viewers. “Like sands through an hourglass, so are the days of our lives” this saying will be linked to the show forever as veterans and cast members continue to come and go. No other show will be know like Days of our Lives will in the hearts of its very loyal viewers. The famous alumni of the show have truly dedicated their lives to playing the pivotal roles on the show like no other.
