The Bold and the Beautiful was first aired on CBS in 1987. The show is based in Los Angeles, CA and revolves around the Forrester Family who owns their own fashion business. The Bold and the Beautiful is currently the only soap opera to operate on a 30-minute timeslot and is one of the youngest soaps still airing since the cancelation of Passions in 2008. Bold and the Beautiful was created by William and Lee Bell, which in essence was implemented to replace Capitol in the CBS daytime lineup. The Bold and the Beautiful uses “typical” soap opera sets focusing on the Forrester mansion, offices, as well as the Shady Marlin. The Bold and the Beautiful has been known to focus primarily on just the Forrester family including Eric, Brooke, Macy, Stephanie, Ridge, Thorne and Taylor, which has amounted to a lot of criticism despite their high ratings. The Bold and the Beautiful has had many cross over’s with other CBS soaps such as the Young and the Restless. From time to time a doctor or a lawyer will perform a service for the other shows to try to involve audiences in both shows. There have also been a couple different realistic story lines that have been intertwined such as Bob Barker and his models showing up on the Bold and the Beautiful to address the new fashion from the A. Moore. Bold and the Beautiful has always prided itself at targeting a younger audience by plot lines and changing characters to stimulate viewers. Other famous entertainers such as Fabio, Mario Lopez, Usher, and Dionne Warwick have all made guest start appearances on the show to show its ever evolving plot lines and twists. The Bold and the Beautiful has also tested different type of shooting styles like actually going to a nearby beach in California to shoot their fictional vacation or “Bikini Beach” spot. This more reality shooting technique has become a trend for the Bold and the Beautiful while it also is used to cut costs associated with set creation. No matter what type of style the Bold and the Beautiful’s producers decide on, their loyal viewers take it with stride. Although the show has been criticized for relying their story lines solely on the Forrester family, it seems as though the viewers have also accepted this fact. It seems that the Bold and the Beautiful’s different approach to typical American soap operas has really paid off for them in the long run. Despite many criticisms about the show, the Bold and the Beautiful has achieved many awards mostly including Outstanding Daytime Emmy awards in for a younger actor or actress. These awards have been consistent from 200-2004. The Bold and the Beautiful has struck itself with a younger audience and plays off their niche quite well. The Bold and the Beautiful is also among the few soap’s that have offered a DVD box set for sale that has been successful.
